I'm free!

Ok, so you all read my post about "The Art of being Published" well, I have been set free from this publisher! I simply wrote him a small, but fully packed letter informing him of our
contractual agreement to which he was not doing his part in it and that I wanted my ebook that they had published off the market because I did not want my writing represented by this publisher.
Oh, and that the manuscripts I had sent to him be destroyed. His reply? "I understand and I wish you the best of luck!"

Here I was all set to give him what for if he decided to give me a hard time and his reply back was rather nice and non-offending...darn!

Seriously, I'm glad that it went as well as it did. From my last post on this matter, I come to find yet another author who was contracted with this publisher was having the same if not identical situation that I found myself in. So now I wonder how many more authors that are bound by his ill-conceived notion of publishing are finding difficulty as well and don't know better?

To end this post, I will say how much better I feel knowing that my writings are back and totally mine to do what I wish and publish them with another publisher.

Red Flags to newbie authors...

I being a newbie myself have come across some things that sent out signals to cause me to think twice. Being published is great, you may not make a living at it, but that's not why you write.  You write because it is your passion.  With that being said, then take your time to look for a reputable publisher.  If an author friend or someone you know who is published by someone they like working for then by all means go for it, but if you know nothing about the publisher search them.  Find out what  you can and even then you're not told everything. I searched Trestle Press and found nothing wrong with them, but I still had this innate feeling of doom, well not doom, but a twinge of not too sure if I wanted to sign up with them.  I signed the contract, which was a one paragraph sheet of paper (red flag #1) and then a bunch of lines to where I would write what submissions I was sending in for them to publish.  Still nervous. I filled it out and sent it in then I started asking ho
